Action Aid says Tanzania must quickly develop bioenergy production, stem low-value export of biomass

October 22, 2010 |

In Tanzania, Action Aid has released a report asking the Tanzanian government to quickly develop and implement biofuel policies in order to ensure that biofuel investment and use is sustainable. The report says that in the absence of such a policy, the government has been caught in a situation where it has had to borrow some clauses of other policies to guide investment decisions.

ActionAid notes in its report that export of raw biofuel feedstocks denies employment opportunities to locals in the chain of value addition, causes loss of export gains, in addition to untapped technical skills and blocking technology transfer.
