Historic Vehicle group launches attack on ethanol

November 14, 2010 |

In Michigan, the Historic Vehicle Association launched an all-out attack on ethanol as part of its opposition to the approval of E-15, which the EPA approved recently for the 2007-09 model years. In its broadside, the group used data on ethanol tax policies, mileage, and price impact dating back to the early 1990s. The group revived the Pimentel study on ethanol emissions, and said that ethanol was “Not Cost-Effective” based on a 2003 study, stating that gasoline costs 63 cents per gallon to produce.

The group cited a 2004 report on ethanol energy return on energy invested,  a study dating to 1998 on emissions, a GAO report on ethanol tax impacts that dates to 1997, and cites an article describing ethanol as the “largest scam in our nation’s history” that dates to 2003.
