San Francisco OKs biodiesel-from-animal rendering project

In California, the Port of San Francisco’s commissioners have approved the conversion of a former rendering plant into a biodiesel facility in a vote 3-0. The rendering facility was up until now producing oils for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. Environmentalists not only oppose the production of biodiesel but also fear that those industries will now seek unsustainably produced oil instead of from the rendering plant.
