Renewable Energy Group

EDITOR’S NOTE: Readers, REG contacted us about the item below. Though accurate, it is quite an old story and we did not, clearly, spot the date on an old press release. We apologize for the confusion – clearly we need to serve more coffee around the Digest offices. Consider this an old chestnut of a story – although REG certainly, here in 2010, is growing fast and furiously.

In Iowa, Renewable Energy Group and its partner East Fork Biodiesel, announced that their Algona biodiesel plant is now ready for production.  At 60 MGy, the plant is the largest in Iowa and the fifth largest in the US.  The plant will bring Iowa’s biodiesel production over 250 MGy.

When the plant reaches full production, the plant will have 36 full time job opportunities, with over 1,500 Iowans as investor-owners of the facility.  The East Fork Biodiesel plant will produce clean burning biodiesel from renewable resources such as refined soybean oil and other refined oils, for use in B20 blends.  This facility will bring REG’s total production capacity to 222 MGy.
