India's M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation starts program for sea water use

In India, the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, has started the Salt Satyagraha Memorial Programme. The program will target the use of sea water of a number of halophyte crops for use in either agricultural or as bioshield.  One plant, sea asparagus (Salicornia brachiata) will be looked at as a potential biodiesel feedstock. The program is being supported by the Society of Integrated Coastal Management of the MoEF, the Department of Science and Technology,  and the governments of both India and Tamil Nadu.
