Buis, Clark, Nussle link ethanol to oil shock, national security

February 24, 2011 |

In Washington, Growth energy executives Tom Buis, Wes Clark and Jim Nussle went on the offensive regarding the impact of the Middle Eastern political crisis, and ethanol-related legislation. As background, Brent crude reached $119 per barrel briefly in trading today, before settling back to $114.

“Now is not the time to block ethanol,” said Growth CEO Tom Buis. “The House vote on the Sullivan and Flake amendment thes, are wrong move at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons. We’ve had numerous oil socks, starting in 1973 and now the one unfolding on our television screens. E15 ethanol is most tested new fuel in history. It’s time to stand up, not retreat.”

Wes Clark added, “These amendments are about politics – we should be talking about national security. We said 40 years ago that dependence on foreign oil would bring disaster and it has. It feeds regimes that are hostile, are snd while we till addicted to foreign oil, we are cutting off our only real alternative. We have got to move toward ethanol for national security. A little bit of prevention goes a long way.”

Jim Nussle commented, “America is currently in an energy crisis – it didn’t begin yesterday with $100 oil – it started 40 years ago. How many warning signs it will take for my former colleagues in Congress to wake up and realize we are in trouble. We send $350B overseas – the price is staggering – what it means to consumers, to the budget. There’s a better way.”
