CR Fuels Atlantic looks at biofuels plant in Nova Scotia

April 22, 2011 |

In Canada, CR Fuels Atlantic, sister company of CR Fuels in Strathmore, Alberta, is investigating the possibility of establishing either an ethanol or biodiesel facility in Nova Scotia.  In an interview the Chronicle Herald, Gordon Hart, CR Fuels president stated, “We’re really looking at (whether there is) a business case for ethanol first because we can’t touch biodiesel until we have the technology issue resolved.”

Hart noted that palm oil biodiesel has a problem with gelling below O C, but that CR Fuels is working with an unnamed US company to see if the problem could be resolved.  Hart reported that if CR Fuels opted to go with ethanol, the plant would probably be in the 80 million liter size.  The next issue would be feedstock, and Hart states, “There are all kinds of things that you have in Nova Scotia that we can take a look at — everything from your forestry to your potatoes to all kinds of things that one could look at over time to make something that makes sense.”  Hart anticipates that the most likely markets would be the Maritimes or even the northeast U.S.  Hart stated, “It’s going to take us at least another full year to evaluate the various options.”
