Brazil unveils proposed ethanol regulations

June 14, 2011 |

In Brazil, the country energy regulator ANP has unveiled new rules to ensure domestic ethanol supply availability including requiring producers to hold stocks equivalent to 8% of the previous April’s production no later than March 1 of every year. On the same note, fuel retailers will also be required to hold stocks equal to their ethanol requirements for 15 days based on their January-April sales averages. There could be penalties for those who do not keep sufficient stocks. A 20-day public comment period is now open.
