Maersk stays focused on algal fuels despite high early costs

In Denmark, Maersk wants to focus on second-generation alternatives to bunker fuel using agricultural residues or algae rather than palm oil or canola in an effort to reduce risk of ILUC. Existing research the company is running on algae-based bunker fuel with the US Navy is 25 times more expensive than the current $700 per ton.
