Channel Biorefinery & Terminals to reopen Texas’ GreenHunter plant as US biodiesel revives

March 18, 2013 |

In Texas, Channel Biorefinery & Terminals has commenced the renovation and restart of the former 105 million gallon per year Green Hunter Biofuels facility on the Houston Ship Channel. The company acquired the plant last October, after it was closed due to the impact of Hurricane Ike which hit the facility during its commissioning phase. “When (the previous owner was) ready to commence, there was no money to finish, no working capital, and the plant went into hibernation and receivership,”

Channel CEO Ken Brown told the Houston Business Journal. The plant is expected to be up to 36 million gallons of biodiesel, on an annualized basis, by summer, with a goal of reaching an annual production output of 75 million gallons by 2015.
