In California, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors were set to vote Tuesday on California Ethanol and Power Project’s proposal to produce ethanol, co-generation and methane from sugarcane. The project would need to grow sugarcane on between 50,000 to 70,000 acres. County officials say the local community is likely to support the project because it brings jobs while sugarcane uses less water than the alfalfa currently grown in the valley.
