Vietnamese ethanol producers drowning due to low cassava yields

In Vietnam, ethanol producers are on the verge of bankruptcy due to lack of market for the fuel. Only about 20% of national production goes towards fulfilling the E5 mandate while the rest must be exported at a loss. Low cassava yields, only a third of what is produced in neighboring countries, has led to high feedstock prices and negative margins. Six of the country’s seven ethanol plants are operating, but at far below capacity.
