Blue Sun receives BQ-9000 status for biodiesel

September 22, 2014 |

In Missouri, Blue Sun has received BQ-9000 producer status from the National Biodiesel Accreditation Commission and National Biodiesel Board. This places Blue Sun in a select group of fewer than 50 companies that have received the certification.

The NBAC’s National Biodiesel Accreditation Program, BQ-9000®, is a cooperative and voluntary program for the accreditation of producers and marketers of biodiesel fuel. The program is a unique combination of the ASTM standard for biodiesel, ASTM D6751, and a quality systems program that includes storage, sampling, testing, blending, shipping, distribution, and fuel management practices.

BQ-9000 status represents yet another achievement for Blue Sun, the company that established the first high-quality biodiesel specification. The refinery later completed their first-of-a-kind enzymatic transesterification process in late 2013. Blue Sun specializes in identifying promising technologies in renewable fuels and taking them to commercial reality.

Additionally, as the Digest reported earlier this year, Blue Sun Energy, ARA, and Chevron Lummus Global achieved a key development milestone with their 100 barrel/day (4,200 gallon/per day) demonstration-scale Biofuels ISOCONVERSION facility in St. Joseph, Mo. Less than a year after beginning engineering to scale the technology, the team completed plant commissioning and has begun 24/7 system operation. This technology won the Digest’s own 2012 Best New Fuel Award.
