In Washington, 17 advanced bioeconomy companies were named to the 2014 Global Cleantech 100, produced by Cleantech Group, and LanzaTech was named North American Company of the year, awarded to the highest-ranked company on the list from the region.
According to the Cleantech Group, a record number of nominations were received: 5,995 distinct companies from 60 countries. These companies were weighted and scored to create a short list of 327 companies. Short-listed nominees were reviewed by Cleantech Group’s Expert Panel, resulting in a finalized list of 100 companies from 17 countries.
From the advanced bioeconomy sector, the honored companies are: Arcadia Biosciences, Avantium, Beta Renewables, Elevance Renewable Sciences, Enerkem, Genomatica, Green Biologics, Harvest Power, Kaiima, LanzaTech, Liquid Light, Microvi, NexSteppe, Novomer, OPX Bio, Siluria Technologies and Verdezyne.
LanzaTech CEO Jennifer Holmgren noted: “Over the last 3 years (2011-2013), the top North American companies have been SilverSpring Networks, OPower and Nest: they are all building ecosystems, building industries. We have worked hard inside and outside the company to position ourselves as not just a biofuel company and we have tried to build a message around the fact that we are building an industry – the gas fermentation industry. Our plan continues to be to build a company with broad impact, that sets the pace and tone for the industry and sector.”
