RIN prices rise as blenders turn their backs on expensive ethanol

Across the US, a gasoline prices fall, blenders are choosing to buy RINs rather than ethanol that is more expensive than gas in Chicago, New York, the Gulf Coast, West Coast. As a result, RIN prices are on the rise, up 50% just in the past month, but remain cheaper than ethanol. The spread between Chicago Argo gasoline and D6 RINs hit 58.05 cents on Tuesday, the lowest ever, having slipped below $1 for the first time on Dec. 23.
