Vietnam’s ethanol industry in trouble with 5 out of 7 plants mothballed

In Vietnam, the country’s five ethanol plants are at risk due to a lack of demand in the market for the fuel with only 175 of 12,000 gas stations selling biofuel nationwide. They are currently mothballed, with only two producing ethanol at the moment. The domestic industry feels it hasn’t received the government support required to encourage uptake in the market and therefore must export, but high cassava prices keep the ethanol from being attractive, leaving the facilities no choice by to shut down production until conditions improve.
