Kakira Sugar’s $36.6 million ethanol plant to come online in July

October 29, 2015 |

In Uganda, Kakira Sugar plans to have its $36.6 million ethanol plant online by July, producing roughly 6,000 liters per day for about 2 million liters of production annually from 74,000 metric tons of molasses. Full commissioning of the Praj plant should be completed by the end of September. The government plans to implement a 20% ethanol blending mandate once crude production comes online, likely around 2018. The company is the country’s largest sugar producer but had to cut this year’s production estimate to 174,000 tons from 180,000 tons.
