Commissioning tests begin at Flint Hills’ Duonix biodiesel plant

In Nebraska, the 50 million gallon per year Duonix plant owned by Flint Hills Resources is starting to perform tests ahead of commissioning. The former Beatrice Biodiesel facility is being retrofitted to be multi-feedstock using Benefuel’s patented catalytic process for refining high free-fatty-acid feedstock. It is the first time under the joint venture between the two companies that the technology will be used. The former facility went bankrupt before being commissioned. The city has been notified that some tests could include loud noises, steam emissions and flare gas recovery.
