India’s first biofuel-powered ship to hit the seas on Saturday

February 8, 2016 |

In India, the country’s first biofuel-powered ship will launch on Saturday when the president reviews the naval fleet. Success of the pilot project, a vessel to be used as a fast interceptor craft, will determine if more vessels in the fleet will switch over to biofuel. The move is part of the navy’s shift towards reducing its GHG emissions as part of a wider package that includes energy efficiency measures, and its zero-carbon Karwar naval base.
