Mumbai drops import tax on ethanol from April 1

In India, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to drop a 7% import tax on ethanol beginning April 1 that should boost the city’s ethanol consumption by 60 million liters annually. The funds the city receives from the special octroi tax on ethanol is considered to be a negligible amount and supporting the national move towards more ethanol consumption as well as working to reduce pollution in the city from transport were thought to be more important.
