Ethanol industry swept into Brazilian bribery scandal

In Brazil, the ethanol industry is being dragged into the bribery and graft scandal that has raked the country’s oil industry following a 250-page written testimonial from a prominent senator who was arrested in November for obstructing a federal investigation. He alleges that money was skimmed from Petrobras to invest in ethanol start-up Brenco along with other investors including Vinod Khosla. Facing bankruptcy, Brenco was bought by Odebrecht in 2010, and company which has also been part of the ongoing bribery investigation.
