Enerkem and Edmonton in legal disputes with six suppliers

March 28, 2016 |

In Canada, Enerkem is being sued by six suppliers, and four subcontractors that worked for a bankrupt seventh supplier for C$7.4 million while eight of them are also suing the City of Edmonton. The company and city have engaged in several countersuits as well. The MSW-to-biofuel plant was meant to produce ethanol beginning in 2012 but that has been pushed back to 2017, while the budget has risen to $100 million, above the original $80 million cost targeted for the facility.

Enerkem says that of the 256 suppliers in the project so far, only these seven have had problems.
