Illinois Senate looking to support ethanol through tax break schemes

In Illinois, the Senate is looking at legislation that would get rid of a 20 cent per gallon tax on E10 and implement a 10% tax break for E15 in an effort to support the state’s ethanol industry, but proponents are running up against those who worry ethanol blends will negatively impact small engines and old tractors. Low corn prices are expected for the next several years which could spell difficulties for corn farmers unless there is an uptick in demand for products such as ethanol.
