SUEZ demonstrates bioLNG technology from wastewater biogas

May 23, 2016 |

In France, SUEZ has demonstrated that its BioGNVAL technology has been successfully implemented in Paris to produce bio-LNG from biogas produced at the city’s wastewater treatment plant. According to the results, wastewater from 100,000 inhabitants is enough to produce bio-LNG for 20 heavy trucks or buses. Paris, as an example, has 9 million inhabitants.

The BioGNVAL industrial demonstrator is the first of its kind in France to reuse the biogas from the treatment of wastewater as liquid biofuel (bioLNG), a renewable energy that is easy to store and transport. This innovation is made possible by the cryogenic process developed by Cryo Pur that purifies the biogas by separating its components – methane and CO2– to produce biomethane, which is then transformed into liquid biofuel.
