In Italy, UCO collection rose 44% in 2015 to 62,000 metric tons of which 85% went to biodiesel production. Much of the remainder went for cosmetics production. Producing the biodiesel led to an estimated savings of EUR17 million on fossil fuel costs, reduced GHG emissions by 152,000 tons and cut water consumption by 62,000 cubic meters. From Jan. 1, 2017 household UCO oil collection will become mandatory so production is expected to increase significantly. Household production is estimated at 64% of total UCO in the country.
