In Canada, Brampton Transit who was lauded in 2002 for using high level blends of biodiesel across its bus fleet has quietly gone down to just a 3% blend nearly a year ago, allegedly over issues with clogged filters in fuel dispensing systems. The transit company had switched to B20 using soybean oil-based biodiesel, cutting emissions by 24%, and eventually went higher to cut emissions by 74% but now emissions don’t seem to be a concern as apparently they are no longer monitored. The city councilor chairing the committee that oversees transport wasn’t aware of problems with biodiesel nor were buses ever out of service due to fuel challenges.
