Calls to unleash ethanol production capacity at all Tamil Nadu mills

In India, a party leader is calling for all 46 sugar mills in Tamil Nadu to be allowed to produce ethanol, rather than just the eight that currently do so. Over the weekend, Bharath Petroleum Corporation floated a tender to source 2.8 billion liters of ethanol to comply with the country’s E5 blending mandate but the prohibition of sugar mills to produce ethanol significantly restricts the state’s capacity to supply even its own blending demand.
