Trump’s win supported refiner equities but weighed on biofuels companies and RINs

In Washington, though the biofuels industry for the most part congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US presidential election, shares of biofuel companies such as Green Plains and Renewable Energy Group along with RIN prices tumbled on the news. On the other hand, independent oil refiners saw their shares soar, like CVR Refining whose shares jumped 26%. The oil industry believes Trump will reform the Renewable Fuel Standard, like getting rid of RINs that have created additional financial burdens on those refiners who don’t blend.
