In California, the California Energy Commission has proposed a $3.8 million grant for New Leaf Biofuels to double its biodiesel production to 12 million gallons per year as part of the “Community-Scale and Commercial-Scale Advanced Biofuels Production Facilities” funding program. The grant requires the company to match the funds with another $4.5 million. If the company is successful in getting the required paperwork together for the CEC’s April meeting, construction could be underway by this summer.
