Hawaii Electric Company new power plant to be running in 2018

In Hawaii, construction is moving forward on the Hawaii Electric Company power plant with six 159-ton generators being delivered to help power the 50-megawatt plant. The plant will run on biofuels and conventional fuels and be operated by Hawaii Electric on 8 acres at the Schofield Barracks Army base.

The project is a partnership between Hawaiian Electric, U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Honolulu and Headquarters U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the power plant will provide energy to the Army base as well as the Oahu island. The power plant is located further inland than any other plant on the island making it better to withstand storms or tsunamis. Even better, it can be isolated from the power grid and still power the Army base offering extra security and protection in case of emergencies.
