Key Indian energy leader says state and national policy differences must be addressed for ethanol to succeed

November 27, 2017 |

In India, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas says despite ensuring ethanol consumption become mandatory, issues concerning supply need to be addressed, such as the increasing profitability of molasses production. Policy differences between state and national level that have impeded production and trade also need to be resolved, he said. The country has a 10% ethanol blending mandate while sugar mills can only supply 5% with current installed capacity, but even so production and supply challenges have limited that to even further.
