IRENA statistics show bioenergy production grew 5% in 2019 to 6 GW

In the UAE, the International Renewable Energy Agency has released its annual report on production capacity statistics between 2010 and 2019 which shows that of the total 2,537 GW of installed renewable power globally, only 124 GW was bioenergy. Hydropower has the largest share by far with 1,190 GW. In 2019, bioenergy production increased 5% by 6 GW with 3.3 GW installed in China alone, followed by Germany, Italy, Japan and Turkey. That said, bioenergy accounts for 40% of off-grid energy capacity which grew 2% overall last year to 8.6 GW.
