In Iowa, local press reports that CRANDIC railroad lines says it is storing about 230 ethanol cars outside between Cedar Rapids and North Liberty as the market waits to pick up and spark demand. With significant production shutdowns since March as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for rolling stock has collapsed. The company says the tanker cars have been cleaned of ethanol and pose no chemical hazard to the environment while they wait, together with about 500 coal cars that are also idled.
