German renewable energy consumption in transportation stagnated in 2019 at 5.6%

July 14, 2020 |

In Germany, data from the AEE agency shows transportation emissions in 2019 fell by 6.3 percent overall compared to 2018 despite an increase in traffic of just under one percent. The share of renewable energies stagnated at 5.6 percent. Biodiesel, bioethanol and biogas saved a total of 7.8 million tons of CO 2 in 2019. Without it, the climate footprint of the transport sector would be even worse. Renewable energies could make even greater contributions to climate protection, especially if they are combined with a comprehensive turnaround in traffic with traffic avoidance and modal shift.
