JAL to use Fulcrum Bioenergy SAF regularly from San Francisco beginning in 2022

November 5, 2020 |

In Japan, Reuters reports Japan Airlines will begin using fuel produced by Fulcrum BioEnergy regularly in flights originating from San Francisco beginning in 2022, perhaps as early as April, four years after it invested $8.6 million in the start-up. The airline has already used Fulcrum’s MSW-based fuel on occasion. The shift to aviation biofuel, like many other airlines, is part of a commitment by IATA members to reduce emissions while the company itself has committed to net carbon neutrality by 2050.
