Portugal looks to ban palm oil for biofuels by January 1, 2022

November 9, 2020 |

In Portugal, the Portuguese government, in the context of discussion of the State Budget for 2021, decided that during 2021 steps should be taken to restrict the commercialization of fuels and the production of biofuels containing palm oil from January 1, 2022. The shift is in line with the European decision to ban the use of palm oil for biofuels which has led producers such as Malaysia and Indonesia to file complaints with the World Trade Organization against the policy.
