AltEn under fire for using pesticide-treated seed corn as feedstock

February 4, 2021 |

In Nebraska, the Omaha World Herald newspaper reports that the AltEn ethanol plant in Mead is the target of a new bill being introduced into the state legislature that would ban it from using pesticide-treated seed corn as feedstock. The company has left piles of the processed corn around the site which neighbors have been complaining about since 2018, claiming that the chemical residues are polluting local waters. The bill would force the plant to either find a licensed landfill to take the leftovers or to incinerate it, if the company does not take action on its own.
