4. At last, a new and aggressive venture fund for Europe

There’s been so much talk and ambition in Europe over sustainability, the Green Deal and so forth. But when it comes to execution, it’s been based almost entirely on the interest levels at huge European concerns and imported tech because, with the notable and laudable exception of Sofinnova, hardly anyone’s been investing in early-stage European tech. That’s changing with the launch of the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund, highlighted here by founding partner Peter Nieuwenhuizen. Especially the fund is focused on that mid-stage Technical Readiness Level company where there’s been the funding gap, known elsewhere as the Valley of Death, but probably should be known as the Valleys, Mountains and Deserts of Death.
