COPA-COGECA says European Commission’s “ultra-orthodox” stance on biofuels jeopardizing agriculture

May 24, 2021 |

In Belgium, Euractiv reports the head of the European farmers unions COPA-COGECA says the European Commission’s stance on biofuels is “ultra-orthodox”, when it comes to sustainability criteria. He says that by capping the use of crop-based biofuels at 7% has inhibited the development of biofuels in the region rather than helping to boost the agriculture sector while decarbonizing transportation as should have happened. He has called on the European Commission to reconsider its stance on the cap and allow more conventional biofuels as a foundation for future advanced biofuels.
