UK farmers will have to include mass balance in Red Tractor sustainability reporting

May 26, 2021 |

In the UK, Farmers Weekly reports that even though the UK has left the European Union, its farmers will still have to comply with tighter regulations on mass balance figures from June 1 as part of the Red Tractor sustainability program to comply with biofuels sustainability rules. The UK market is expected to mirror EU policy on biofuels, so farmers are expected to comply. Some farmers who do not produce crops for biofuels but participate in Red Tractor are pushing back on the mass balance paperwork requirements since they don’t participate in the market.
