DOE awards over $65M to Praj, Novozymes, Invizyne, others to commercialize promising tech

In Washington, D.C., the U.S. Department of Energy awarded over $30 million in federal funding, matched by over $35 million in private sector funds, for 68 projects that will accelerate the commercialization of promising energy technologies, and includes Praj Industries’ for SAF, Marrone Bio and NREL for biogas bioreactors, Invizyne, Novozymes and others.

The projects range from clean energy and advanced manufacturing, to building efficiency and next-generation materials. These awards will help deploy innovative solutions from DOE’s national labs onto the marketplace helping to create new jobs and businesses, while strengthening the nation’s economic competitiveness and achieving President Biden’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The Bioenergy Technologies Office’s selected federal facilities and partners are:

  • Scale-Up and Business Aviation Test Flight of DMCO High-Performance Sustainable Aviation Fuel, $1,500,000 – Praj Industries Ltd, Pune, India with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
  • Novel Biogas Bioreactors for Energy Recovery at Small-Scale Wastewater Treatment Facilities, $250,000 – Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • Bio-Based Insecticides from Thermochemical Conversion of Biomass, $100,000 – Marrone Bio Innovations, Davis, CA and Ensyn, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • Reducing Protein Production Costs to Enable Cell Free Biocatalysis, $400,000 – Invizyne Technologies, Monrovia, CA with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • Robust Carbonic Anhydrases for Novel Biological, Sustainable and Low Energy CO2 Scrubbing Process from Waste Gases, $250,000 – Novozymes North America, Franklinton, NC with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • In Vivo Production of Ethyl Acetate, $67,769 – Johnson-Matthey, Cleveland, United Kingdom with Sandia National Laboratories.
