Oslo bus company goes back to fossil fuels after hefty tax bill levied on biofuels

July 12, 2021 |

In Norway, the Aftenposten newspaper reports Oslo bus company Ruter has decided that more bus routes must change from renewable biodiesel to ordinary diesel, according to an internal memo seen by Aftenposten, to avoid an extra tax bill of up to $86.4 million. Last year, the Norwegian government added a tax to liquid biofuels when previously they had been tax-free. With the policy shift, the taxes owed if the publicly owned company continued to use renewable diesel would increase 23-fold over last year.
