In India, the Hindustan Times reports that Fitch Solutions sees the successful implementation of the country’s push to boost ethanol blending in the next few years, driving demand for increased ethanol production. To achieve the 20% blending target would require conversion of 8 million metric tons of sugar to ethanol, flipping the country’s sugar surplus into a deficit. Not all of the ethanol will come from sugar, however, as policy flexibilization has begun to allow ethanol production from grains as well.
