November 10, 2021 |

In California, UPSIDE Foods has opened a cultivated meat engineering, production and innovation center in Emeryville. Dubbed EPIC, the center can annually produce over 50,000 pounds of finished product, which includes ground or whole cuts of meat, poultry or seafood, and can be expanded to reach 400,000 lbs of output.

“Today, our team at UPSIDE has made history,” says Dr. Konrad Müller-Auffermann, Senior Director of Engineering at UPSIDE, formerly known as Memphis Meats, in a press statement. “This facility is a gamechanger not just for UPSIDE Foods, but also for the entire food system. I’m so proud of our team for helping to define the future of food, and I can’t wait to share our delicious, real meat with the world.”

The facility includes quality assurance space, room for federal inspectors, cell fix mill and mix rooms, a kitchen for tastings, and office space. Tours of the facility will begin early next year.
