#2 Home of the future may be 3D printed out of hemp

In New York, a consortium is developing hemp-based ink for use in 3D-printed construction applications. Black Buffalo 3D, a supplier of 3D printers and inks to the construction industry; Alquist, a company using 3D printing in construction; and industrial hemp maker Revive Hemp Industries, announced their collaboration with the goal of creating greener alternatives for the building industry.

The scale of the carbon sequestration opportunity is quite high (literally)—Black Buffalo 3D’s 3D construction printers can “print” a building four stories tall.

“Working with Revive and Black Buffalo, we believe that by introducing hemp into our homes, we’ll not only strengthen the wall systems, but also the home itself will sequester carbon every day, contributing to greener construction,” says Zachary Mannheimer, founder and CEO of Alquist, in a press statement.
