7. Policy – LCFS expands, RFS retreats

The RFS, let’s face it, is like the Great Wall of China. Massive, ambitious all all heck, unforgettable, but chock full of weaknesses that made it ultimately less of a help than it was intended to be, especially for advanced fuels. But Low Carbon Fuel Standards have proven spectacularly effective. Now, California, British Columbia, and Oregon are established, Washington state has one, Canada’s in the final stages of finalizing the regs, New Mexico almost adopted one, and New York and some Midwestern states are making noises about an LCFS. Right now, it’s about the Clean Coast, but the east is looking green.
