6. Hydrogen roars, but is it green?

Speaking of green, what about green hydrogen. Lots of projects announced, but hydrogen comes in many colors and we think you might want to pay more attention to blue. That’s conventionally-sourced hydrogen (e.g. from natural gas) with carbon capture. Now, capturing CO2 emissions point-source at refineries is nice for other fuels, but at the end of the day, combusting petrol makes CO2. But using hydrogen in a fuel cell does not make CO2, capturing emissions has a special place when it comes to hydrogen. We’d far rather see hydrogen made from renewable natural gas. that can have sub-zero carbon intensity the way it’s counted, that’s green hydrogen of the best kind. But we predict we’re going to see an awful lot of blue hydrogen, users need it, and oil & gas companies need something big.
