India approves 196 grain-based ethanol projects to produce 8.59B liters

In India, the Hindu Business Line reports the government has approved 196 grain-based ethanol project that, when implemented, should produce 8.59 billion liters of ethanol. More than 40% of the projects approved are in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, which are key sugarcane growing regions as well and where much of the country’s current ethanol production is. The government wants to achieve a 25% ethanol blending mandate by 2024/25, which will required 12.88 billion liters of ethanol annually.
