Unusual mix of allies rail against EPA over revised emissions rules

March 1, 2022 |

In Washington, Reuters reports the Environmental Protection Agency is running up against push back from an unusual mix of allies including several state corn growers associations, ethanol producers, a Valero Energy subsidiary and even the American Fuel And Petrochemical Manufacturers who believe the agency’s revised emissions rules promote electrical vehicles and push out internal combustion engines. Although President Biden and the agriculture secretary regularly say they support biofuels, the president has also said he wants 50% of new vehicles sold to be electric by 2030. The new EPA rules would see a fleetwide average of 40 MPG by 2026, higher than the Biden Administration’s original proposal of 32 MPG or Trump’s policy of 32 MPG.
