Keurig Dr Pepper developing recyclable and compostable paper bottle

April 6, 2022 |

In Germany, Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. and sustainable packaging manufacturer PAPACKS, based in Cologne – Germany, announced the start of a partnership to develop a fully recyclable and compostable paper bottle.

This innovation will support the commitment to reduce Keurig Dr Pepper’s use of virgin plastic by 2025% by 20, which is part of the Drink Well. Do Good. corporate responsibility platform.

To advance this sustainable packaging alternative, Keurig Dr Pepper is partnering with PAPACKS, a packaging manufacturer based in Cologne, Germany. Unlike other beverage packaging alternatives that use plant-based PET plastic or sustainably sourced pulp with a polymer liner, KDP will use PAPACKS technology that uses fiber and organic materials to create a 100% plastic-free bottle. The goal is for the entire package – including the bottle, label, cap and closure – to be compostable or recyclable with other paper products at rubbish collection in most communities in the US.

The prototype of the new bottle is expected by the end of 2022. The plan is to test the innovation in selected products from KDP’s entire beverage portfolio – from water to juices and carbonated drinks.
